The Alaska Board of Game has approved the inhumane aerial gunning down of over 1000 wolves in Alaska. Goal is to get up to 610 this year. Available science presented to the Board of Game does not justify their actions, as over-hunting by HUMANS is the real issue. LEARN MORE AND SEE HOW YOU CAN HELP see links below: Other outrageous actions taken by Alaska Board of Game: They allowed the destruction of the historical Toklat wolf pack that had trusted humans after 40 years of being protected in the Denali National Park. The board would not approve a proposed protective buffer zone, so recently just one trapper and one hunter wiped out the wolf pack that over 20,000 visitors view each year. Soon they will allow trophy hunting of humanized grizzly (brown) bears in & around the McNeil River Bear Sanctuary, where 1000s of visitors have photographed and observed these wild bears that have no fear of humans. Even though there were 1000s of letters of protest and only 5 people in favor of this action, the Alaska Board of Game ignored the public outcry and will be opening this area of bears to hunting by 2007! They approved the killing of 81 grizzly (brown) bears with bear baiting in an area that normally only 14 bears are harvested. UPDATE: IN 2005 ONLY 4 BEARS WERE TAKEN IN THIS AREA!! SO MUCH FOR AK BOARD OF GAME'S ACCURATE NUMBERS AND SCIENTIFIC DATA! They passed a regulation that allocates, at least 1000 bears to bear baiters for harvest in 18 Game Management Units across the state. All this and more approved by Governor Murkowski, the Alaska Board of Game, and the Alaska Dept of Fish & Game. In 2005 123 scientists signed a letter including 4 from the National Academy of Science, to protest the aerial wolf killing, with concerns it is not supported by any scientific data. This letter & 1000s of other protest letters have been ignored by our governor. to see science letter click here

Over 80% of Alaskans disapprove of what the Ak Board of Game and the governor are doing to threaten Alaska's balance. The Alaska Constitution at Article VIII, Section 2 reserves ownership of Alaska’s wildlife to all of the people of Alaska, for common use. Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski's appointed Board of Game's decisions represent less than 25% of Alaskans interests. Everyone on THE BOARD is a hunter or hunting guide that has something to gain from this.
Over 500,000 people from around the world have said NO to aerial wolf killing in the recent past. Alaska's animals need protection from our very own state government that still operates in the 19th century. Alaska is one of the few remaining states that still allows bear baiting. The Yukon and British Columbia banned it years ago, considering it barbaric and inhumane. AERIAL WOLF KILLING is very cruel - more than one airplane work together to flush the wolves out, run them down to exhaustion in the deep snow, and gun down the vomiting, helpless, terrified animal.
